U78 Standard Grey | peregrination CD (special & regular edition)/Digital
Let’s start with a work initially scheduled to appear on Philip Sulidae’s now on hiatus ebullient label, Hemisphäreの空虚…Philip told me it was top notch, and could fit in easily with Unfathomless’ signature, and it did all the way… U78 « peregrination » is doubtless an impacting sensitive work from Standard Grey a.k.a. Christopher Olson, a quite discreet yet experienced fellow and Canadian expatriate living since about 10 years in Nara (Japan) …versed into graphic arts, and of course, experimental and field recording based work, coloured by tape & musique concrète techniques. He’s also the former curator for Muzan editions, and has quite a bunch of releases out on such labels as Falt, Audio.Visuals.Atmosphere, Modern Concern, and Steep Gloss to name but a few… « peregrination »is a plunge into the intangible, and a compendium of his ceaseless wanderings in his past perfused vicinity – a sort of intimate log, holding more than just sketches, but rather elaborate sentient sound narrations taking us by the hand and heart… « peregrination » is activating, it makes old grounds crunch, waking millennial soil spirits…ghost winds roam in the quivering air, while savage cuts rip the glades…much of a procession recounting perhaps an ancient filigree world… Cascades of pulses, bouncing back and forth, hints of disguised distress… Animal instinct, buried streams, a flow of past knowledge running till oblivion… On « peregrination », an erasing breeze pervades and all words fade…
Listening to the smallest of murmurs of a damaged, yet sacred panorama, we step aside, along, then slowly, find a meaning, a purpose… Let yourself glide in, feel the outlines of an immutable landscape full of sense…

Very proud also to be able to give body to U79 Bruno Duplant & David Vélez | des-illusions, a release of moving scope… Continuing to pursue his dedicated singular path, french northerner composer and psychogeographer Bruno Duplant uses his talent to blur the lines and create intense fictional evocations, and teams up again for his 6th collaboration with Colombian sound artist David Vélez who is now endowed with a PHD in sonic art…curator as well of the long term, and persistently absorbing Impulsive Habitat label, David has a keen interest in environmental contextualism, acoustics of food and horticulture, and generally in the way we experience sound (as shown with his latest installation « Bones » created with sine waves & field recordings, inviting us to listen through our skull)… Very anxious about the state of this world, both resort to erosive methods, and diverse tattered instrumentation to shape a questioning musical poem of sweeping grandeur… « des-illusions » unfolds an enduring circling yet gradually decaying chant under ominous clouds… A lonesome organ emits a few warning notes tearing the day apart while we hear shards of voices on a background of slowed down, dragging on tones… Percussive clatter, muffled church bell and other urban signals… A devious threnody seeps in, layers of tactile shifting sounds form dust dreams, stars alight in the backyard… The road is long, partially broken, some haunted marimba draws silver-grey furrows, ginned notes let a ringing charm fuse…Imagine a much less minimal and layered William Basinski passing through an old projector…
« des-illusions » decimates the last rays of hope, but deceptive mood never sounded so gorgeous… Could something precious still exist in the crumbs ?…
