TRES FRONTERAS

Urgence ! Il y a urgence !! Il y a une urgence !!! De toute évidence, il y a une urgence dans cette pièce. Rien ne s’installe. Ou tout au moins le peu qui y arrive se voit vite dépouillé, remplacé, déchiré, aboli… Urgence en réponse à d’autres urgences. Celle de cette résidence de 7 jours, montre en main, pour aller se frotter à l’Amazonie. Quelle drôle d’idée me direz-vous : passer seulement 7 jours dans cette vastitude, là où l’on devrait passer 7 semaines, 7 mois ou bien encore 7 ans… Mais dans le cadre précis qui m’était imposé, qui a été rendu possible, c’est bien de 7 jours dont j’ai disposé ici. Urgence donc de s’immerger dans les plus brefs délais dans ce nouveau contexte d’écoute afin de rapporter à temps, au Planétarium de Medellìn, 3 semaines plus tard, la pièce qui sera issue de cette auscultation amazonienne… Pas le temps donc de s’éloigner trop radicalement de toute civilisation; mais cela était contenu -et convenu- dans l’essence même de ce projet portant sur les frontières. Et toujours au coeur vibrant de ma démarche : être le témoin, puis le peintre, de ces porosités entre les différentes couches de phonies : viVants et viBRants. Écouter et enregistrer ces frontières, parfois aux frontières de l’écoute elle même, est le projet qui a donc motivé mon départ à la triple frontière amazonienne « Las Tres Fronteras » : Colombie – Peru – Brésil. Et ce, à travers des explorations de la jungle colombienne, de bras vivants de l’Amazone et d’un lac péruvien, mais aussi, dans un second temps, aux frontières et au centre de Medellìn, cette autre jungle andine…  Le voyage se terminera au nord du pays, sur la côte caribéenne, touchant ici aux limites les plus paisibles de ce pays qui borde aussi l’Atlantique. Ce projet est né d’échanges avec Miguel Isaza, curateur de la Semana de la Escucha, un festival dédié à l’écoute sous toutes ses formes qui a lieu à Medellín au mois de juillet. C’est à cette occasion que Miguel m’a invité à réfléchir à un projet axé sur la liminalité. Une thématique qui m’a vite mené à envisager ce séjour en Amazonie colombienne, au départ de Leticia, ville frontalière de Tabatinga au Brésil et voisine de Santa Rosa, cette île péruvienne au milieu des flots tumultueux de l’Amazone -qui défie à elle seule l’idée même de frontière…    Ce projet a tenté de rendre poreuses les limites entre l’audible et l’inaudible; le dedans et le dehors; l’intérieur et l’extérieur; l’humain et le non-humain; le domestique et le sauvage; la jungle et la ville… et bien entendu, comme à mon habitude : le bruit, le son et la musique. Il me reste enfin à évoquer ce sentiment d’urgence environnementale palpable au coeur de la forêt Amazonienne, rongée, grignotée par certains profits, ou mise à feu par d’autres opportunismes. Capitalocène donc que j’ai voulu rendre audible ici à travers des intersections phoniques inquiètes criblées de tensions palpables. Il y a urgence à écouter les indices d’un monde qui se meurt. Car cette silenciation du vivant se fait paradoxalement à grand bruit*… *et je n’oublie pas ici de témoigner de celui des -trop nombreux- avions que j’ai moi-même dû prendre pour réaliser ces projets… paradoxe récurrent de nos pratiques… SCANDIT FATALIS MACHINA MUROS…

TRES FRONTERAS

Urgency ! there is an urgency !! obviously there’s an urgency in this piece !!! Nothing sets in. Or at least the few trying seems quickly stripped of, replaced, torn, abolished…urgency as answer to other urgencies. The one of this exactly seven days residency to rub with the Amazon rainforest. What a funny idea will you tell : only coming seven days in this vastness, where we should better have stayed 7 weeks, 7 months, or even 7 years… But in the precise framework of what was imposed to me, and possible, it was well 7 days that I had. Urgency thus of immersing myself as quick as I could in this new listening context to bring back on time at the Medellìn’s planetarium, 3 weeks later, the piece which will stem from this Amazonian auscultation…No time really to depart too completely from real civilization ; but this was implied – and agreed on – in the essence itself of this frontiers-related project. And always at the vibrant core of my step : becoming the witness, then the painter of these porosities between the different layers of « phonies » : liVing and viBRating beings. Listening and recording these frontiers, sometimes at the threshold of the listening itself, has been the project which justified my departure towards the triple Amazon frontier « Las Tres Fronteras » : Columbia, Peru, Brazil. And this, through explorations of the Columbian jungle, living arms of the Amazon, and a Peruvian lake, but also, in a second phase, at the frontiers, and in the centre of Medellìn, this other Andean jungle… The trip will end in the North of the country, on the Caribbean coast, touching on the quieter limits of it, running alongside the Atlantic. This work is born from exchanges with Miguel Isaza, curator of the « La Semana De La Escucha », a festival dedicated to the listening in every shape and form happening in Medellìn during the month of July (2019). It is on that occasion that Miguel invited me to think about a project focused on liminality. A theme which made me quickly consider this stay in the Columbian Amazon, starting from Leticia, border town of Tatabinga in Brazil, next to Santa Rosa, Peruvian island, in the midst of the turbulent swells of the Amazon, which defies on its own the very idea of frontier… This project aimed to make porous the limits between audible and inaudible ; the within and outside ; the interior and external ; the humane and non-humane ; the domestic and the wild ; the jungle and the town, and of course, as usual, the noise, the sound and music. Finally, there is still the need to evoke this environmental urgency tangible at the heart of the Amazon forest, eroded and eaten away by certain profits, or put afire due to other opportunisms. A Capitalocen, thus, that I wanted to make audible here through worried phonic intersections riddled with palpable tensions. There’s an urgency in listening to the symptoms of a dying world. This Silencing process happens paradoxically with a lot of noise*…*and I don’t forget here to testify of the one caused by the – far too- many planes that I had to take myself to realize this work…recurrent absurdity of our own practices… SCANDIT FATALIS MACHINA MUROS…
